The Future is Now

The Institute for Education holds a national Symposium every year dealing with different aspects of educational theory and practice.  The idea is to generate debate, reflection and praxis. The theme of the Symposium this year is “The Future is Now – Educators’ Vision for Tomorrow” and it will take place on

25th October from 8am to 3pm at Esplora.

We do not wish for this initiative to fall short of engaging in a meaningful way with the people we have set out to serve; the communities of practice in schools.  It is for this reason that this year, we thought of adopting a different approach by directly involving schools and educators from the start, as we reflect on educators and the future. With that in mind we have undertaken a consultation exercise earlier this year with educators at all levels of education and will be presenting the feedback collected as part of this exercise during the Symposium.

However, we are also keen to hear educators’ insights and vision of the future given that we are on the threshold of a number of important national milestones.  The National Strategy for Education is up for review in the next two years.  So is the National Curriculum.  Then there is the collective agreement for educators which is up for review in 2023 and should reflect and address the vision which characterizes the first two. The future of educators hinges on the present and the future itself.

Educators in Conversation

The Educators in Conversation conference aims to provide a platform for educators and researchers to come together and delve into current issues within the field of education. The conference will feature presentations by the academic members of staff at the Institute for Education. These presentations will showcase the research being carried out by our resident lecturers, each specialising in diverse areas within education. The event will serve as a prime opportunity for attendees to gain valuable insights into the research conducted by our academics, all of which is deeply pertinent to the challenges faced by educators in their daily work within schools. The selected papers cover a wide spectrum of educational topics, ranging from pedagogical techniques and curriculum development, to addressing the political dimension of schooling. The conference structure has been designed to allow ample time for attendees to engage in interactive discussions following each presentation. This interactive component is crucial to fostering a collaborative environment where educators can not only learn from the research presented, but also actively participate in meaningful dialogues that can further inform their teaching practices. The event aims to facilitate an exchange of ideas and experiences that bridge the gap between academic research and practical implementation in educational settings.

For those interested in attending this conference, we invite you to access more information, including the full program and abstracts of the scholarly papers to be presented.
